Hiring a Designer

 why hire a designer?

When trying to decide whether or not to go to the expense of hiring a designer, it’s helpful to think about the scale of your project, what uses and benefits you’d like from your yard and garden, and the amount of time and skill you can devote to the project.

things to consider

•Do you have specific issues on your property that need solving, such as drainage problems, lack of privacy, or old, overgrown plants?

•Do you wish that your home had more curb appeal, or that the landscaping could set it apart from the other homes in your neighborhood?

•Have you ever regretted the fact that the most time you spend in your yard is while you’re mowing it?

•Ever wondered what else your property could be doing for you?

A landscape designer is trained to answer these questions, and may even notice some issues on your property you haven’t discovered yet. They can also create a landscape that will accentuate the positive aspects your yard already possesses. Consulting a designer may reveal your property has even more potential than you thought.

Maybe you’d like more out of your landscape, such as a space to dine, relax in the shade, sit around a fire, or satisfy your desire for a more beautiful view. You may be passionate about “going green,” and reducing your impact on the environment by using water-wise or native plants instead of lawn and hybrid flowers. A designer can assess your soil, sun, and other site conditions to ensure you get everything you ever wanted from your property.

our design process

client interview

First, we’ll assess your property and discuss the vision that you have for your landscape. This usually takes about an hour.  Since everyone has slightly different needs and desires for their new landscape, we’ll want input from all family members involved if possible. There is consultation fee of $175/hour for this interview unless you move forward with a design, in which case we’ll waive the fee.

Proposal/Contract

When moving forward with a design, we’ll send you a proposal to look over prior to deciding whether or not to sign a contract. A 50% deposit for the cost of the design will be due upon your signing the contract.

Final design approval

We’ll present the initial master design in your home, with pictures of all plants and materials proposed. This is the stage to make any changes before the design is finalized and final payment is due.

Installation

If you hire Indigo Gardens to install the new design, Beth Schelle (Owner & Designer) will personally supervise the installation of your project, and walk through the new gardens with you to answer any questions you might have about care and watering.
